Apple iPhone XR case – The 6 best cases in the test

In this article we are testing the 6 best iPhone XR cases for you. To do this, we looked around on Amazon again and took the XR cases with the best ratings and of course the ones that are selling the most. We also made sure that we had all the different types of cases with me, such as ultra thin, 360 cases or silicone cases. We then checked the whole thing again for feel, protection, value for money and of course compatibility with iPhone XR bulletproof glasses.

We put the whole test back together as a ranking list! This time, two cases even share first place and third place is also very close. At the end of the day, everyone really has to know for themselves what they prefer.

iPhone XR Case – These are the best cases

1st place & test winner – the Otofly case for the iPhone XR

The Otofly iphone case is right up there and this time it has to share first place! We have the same material here as with the original Apple silicone cases for the iPhone 7/8 or the X generations, with the difference that this case is also closed at the bottom and does not even cost half as much. Apple does not have this case for the XR. The case has all the protective features you need. It is a hard case, despite the silicone, and thus absorbs the impact of a fall and does not pass it directly on to the iPhone. In addition, it has a screen protector, because the frame of the cell phone case goes a bit beyond the display. Thus, the display cannot touch the surface or floor at all. In addition, there is also an inner protection, which is otherwise only known from Apple cases. Here the inside is lined with microfiber and every dirt or grain of sand is simply held there and doesn’t look like sandpaper and scratch the back unnoticed. Anyone who has not yet had this ingenious material of the case in their hands should definitely do so, it feels extremely high-quality and velvety! This case together with a protective film from Otofly gives a perfect result. Because as long as you have a case with a screen protector, you no longer need thick armored glass. We also use this combo on my XS MAX.

Advantages

✓ The best materials

✓ Completely closed

✓ Screen protection

✓ Interior protection

✓ Hard case

✓ Loudspeakers individually recessed

✓ Camera protected

✓ All buttons easy to use

✓ Compatible with all bulletproof glasses

✓ Does  n’t get too fat

Disadvantages

✗ Lint can stick

✗ Camera cutout could be a bit smaller

Conclusion – Who is this case suitable for?

Otofly offers a very good and almost perfect overall concept. All relevant protective measures have been combined here, such as screen protection, interior protection and hard case protection, and everything is packed in a very noble material, like that of original Apple cases. The only point of criticism is the camera cut-out, but we don’t think that you could have cut out something individually here.

Also 1st place & test winner – the ultra-thin case from Humixx for the iPhone XR

The rims are inherently thick, and any case that has slightly thicker rims will of course increase those rims even more. Everyone wants a frameless display these days, but with thicker cases you end up with even thicker bezels than the iPhone 8. That’s why this ultra thin has also landed in first place, because unlike other ultra thin cases for the iPhone XR, this one offers still sufficient protection, because here we have a hard case! We also have a special material here, which is plastic, but feels a bit matt and rubbery, which is very pleasant.

Advantages

✓ Hard case

✓ Really nice and thin

✓ Completely closed

✓ Compatible with all bulletproof glasses

✓ Very comfortable feeling in the hand

✓ Extra recess for flash and microphone

✓ Buttons all easy to use

✓ Camera protected

Disadvantages

✗ No screen protector

✗ No internal protection

✗ Camera cutout could be better

✗ Speaker cutouts could be better

✗ iPhone XR shakes due to camera elevation

Conclusion – Who is this case suitable for?

Even if this case does not have a screen protector or inner protection, it still fits the iPhone XR very well, as the overall concept simply fits with it. The edges of the XR don’t get any thicker and the whole thing feels very good in the hand. We would definitely recommend bulletproof glass and no film for this case, because of the lack of screen protection.

2nd place – The Spigen Thin Fit 360 degree case for the iPhone XR

Very close to the two iPhone XR cases at number 1 is this Thin Fit 360 case from Spigen. This case encloses the entire iPhone XR and consists of two parts + tempered glass. Here, too, you have almost all security features such as display protection and hard case, but there is no interior protection here either. The recesses on the back for the camera and flash are also really perfect here, so this case offers extremely little surface for dust and dirt to attack. We didn’t like the optical thickness as much here. The case only makes the iPhone XR 0.3mm thicker (measured), but it looks like it’s a lot thicker. In addition, you have more of a plastic feel in your hand than a high-quality one. We don’t know if it was a production error or not, but my test case covers parts of the display to the left and right of the notch.

Advantages

✓ Hard case

✓ Screen protection

✓ Completely closed

✓ With bulletproof glass

✓ Perfect camera cutout

✓ The same color as the iPhone XR

✓ Buttons are all easy to use but heavier

✓ Face ID works fine

✓ Doesn’t make the iPhone too thick, just visually

✓ Camera protected

Disadvantages

✗ Covers parts of the display on the right and left of the notch

✗ No internal protection

✗ Loudspeaker recessed with a slot

✗ Unfortunately only in blue, red and black

✗ Feels a lot like a plastic cell phone

Conclusion – Who is this case suitable for?

Everyone who wants ultra protection should take a closer look at this case, because here you don’t have to worry about any damage anymore. Only the inner protection is missing, so you have to check from time to time that nothing has gotten between the case and the iPhone, because that can quickly scratch the back.

3rd place – The transparent TPU case from Torras

The Torras iPhone XR case came in third. The case is made of soft TPU, which feels like rubber. The case is completely closed and also has a screen protector. The thickness of the case is still within limits here and does not reinforce the thick frame effect on the iPhone XR too much. We didn’t like the fact that it wasn’t a hard case. There are transparent iPhone XR cases where the back is made of a kind of plexiglass and the whole iPhone XR case becomes a hard case. Spigen does that with the next case, but there are other problems. There is also no internal protection here, but it cannot be implemented with transparent cases either. Another point of criticism was the reflection on the back. Is there some grease from your fingers?

Advantages

✓  With screen protection

✓ Completely closed

✓ Buttons all easy to use

✓ Also compatible with large armored glasses

✓ Thickness still in the frame

✓ Flash and microphone cut out individually

✓ Camera protected

Disadvantages

✗ No hard case

✗ No internal protection

✗ Camera border could be more precise

✗ Air pockets in the frame

✗ Rubber feel in hand

✗ Rainbow colors on the back

Conclusion – Who is this case suitable for?

Not a bad case per se, but there are better alternatives if you want a transparent one, such as the Spigen Ultra Hybrid.

4th place – The Spigen Ultra Hybrid case for the iPhone XR

The Spigen Ultra Hybrid landed in 4th place. There this case has always occupied a good place, unfortunately not here and that is also due to the thick edge of the iPhone XR. In itself, the case is very good, you have a hard case and still a transparent back, also a screen protector and the whole thing is still completely closed. But if you look at the picture above, you wouldn’t think that you have a current iPhone lying there. Measured the edges are now 0.8mm thick with this case. That’s almost a 1cm edge and nowadays it’s almost a no-go. We didn’t like the color of the frame either. Unfortunately, as you can see, it doesn’t fit at all. So if you get this case, you should definitely get it completely transparent or with a black frame. It’s a shame that Apple made the frame so thick, because this case is really good!

Advantages

✓ Hard case

✓ Screen protection

✓ Completely closed

✓ Also fits with large armored glasses

✓ Buttons easy to use

✓ Camera protected

Disadvantages

✗ Color doesn’t match in my opinion

✗ No internal protection

✗ Back side strongly attracts fingerprints

✗ Seems very thick, like brick

✗ No exact camera cutout

✗ No individual cutouts for speakers

Conclusion – Who is this case suitable for?

In itself a very good case, because you have a transparent hard case case, which you don’t find that often. If you decide to do this, you should definitely stick with black or transparent, since the colors differ very much from the iPhone. In addition, you should put up with having an almost 1cm thick frame around the iPhone. Certainly not the best choice in times when everyone wants a frameless cell phone.

5th place – The Spigen Air Skin case for the iPhone XR

The Spigen Air Skin case for the iPhone XR landed in last place, which is really extremely thin. It has two protection advantages. It’s raised around the camera so it doesn’t touch the ground, and it’s not completely open except for the buttons. All other cases also have these features. We have no hard case, no interior protection and no screen protection here. The color of the iPhone XR shines through, but distorts it. Of course, everyone has to know for themselves what they think of it.

Advantages

✓ Extremely thin

✓ Almost completely closed

✓ Compatible with all bulletproof glasses

✓ Camera protected

✓ Precise cutouts for camera and flash

✓ Buttons easy to use

✓ Pleasant feeling in the hand

✓ Color of the iPhone shines through

Disadvantages

✗ No hard case

✗ No screen protector

✗ No internal protection

✗ Speaker cutouts better with holes

✗ iPhone XR shakes due to camera elevation

✗ Buttons are completely exposed

✗ Too expensive

Conclusion – Who is this case suitable for?

This case is really just there to protect the back from scratches and to not stand out. Unfortunately she can’t do anything else. Therefore, in my opinion, not recommended if you want to protect your iPhone XR.

My conclusion on the iPhone XR cases

The two iPhone XR cases in 1st place and also in 1st place are very close to each other and all offer good protection with the right accessories. So everyone really has to see for themselves what they value more and what not. In terms of price, all variants do not differ much.
