You’ll find some of the most beautiful sand dunes along Michigan’s Great Lakes shoreline. With 300,000 acres of Michigan sand dunes, it offers breathtaking views and an exhilarating experience for everyone. If you’ve never been to the dunes of Michigan or are looking for new dunes to explore, it’s time to plan your trip. Here’s a roundup of some of Michigan’s most exciting and enchanting dunes.
Silver Lake Sand Dunes
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Silver Lake Dunes comprises 2,000 acres of sand dunes. These dunes are located between the towns of Mears, Pentwater, and Hart, but the dunes themselves are actually between Lake Michigan and Lake Silver inland. This nature event is divided into three parts, each with different and fun activities. In the northern part of the dunes you can drive your own 4×4 on the sand. The dune center has access to Silver Lake and Lake Michigan for hiking and sand boarding. And finally, the third dune is where you can find rides at Mac Woods Dunes. This thrilling attraction includes a 7 mile ride through the dunes and Lake Michigan.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Coast
Hailed by American audiences on Good Morning as one of the most beautiful places in America, Sleeping Bear Dunes is one of the most spectacular (and huge) Sand Dunes In Michigan. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore stretches 35 miles along the shores of Lake Michigan and includes both the North Manitou Islands and the South Manitou Islands. However, to reach the main attractions of the dunes, you will have to take a 7 km long penetrating panoramic road which stops at the observation deck. At this point you are 450 feet above Lake Michigan and can enjoy stunning views. Keep in mind that if you go all the way down the dunes, it will be difficult to come back up. It’s worth it.
Soga Tuck Dunes State Park
A secluded spot on Lake Michigan is Soga Tuck Dunes State Park. The park has a 2.5 kilometer long coastline and sand dunes over 200 meters high. This place is only 1 km from the picnic parking lot. But another fun way to see this Michigan treasure is to hike the Soga Tuck Sand Dunes. During this 40-minute cruise, you can sit back and enjoy a tour of the Soga Tuck Dunes.
Huge herds and dunes
Grand Sable Dunes is located on the shores. The dunes span the Five Mile Range of the Upper Peninsula and are located on the east side of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The best way to access these dunes and experience their beauty is to start from the Sable Falls parking lot and hike through the transition areas, forests, and dunes of Sable Falls. The dunes of Grand Sable rise 300 feet above Lake Superior, but the dune vegetation is sensitive and dune climbing is not recommended. Log slides are also part of the climbing benches and dunes at Wielki Sobolowe. But the grade is very steep, 500 feet uphill. The massive Gilded Age mansion and mansion that George and Edith Vanderbild lavishly enjoyed with visitors more than a century ago is now one of North Carolina’s biggest attractions. George and Edith’s grandchildren continue the tradition of hospitality by welcoming guests to the family residence. I have been visiting the historic Biltmore Estate for years and have had the opportunity to visit every season.
