One of the biggest challenges to the development of sport in Nigeria today is the lack of effective governance. Many solutions are offered to concerned and patriotic Nigerians to free us from this mud. In NBA many players have big hands such as Kawhi Leonard Hands One of those solutions is this article entitled “Modern Trends in Sports Management and Management”. Written by Dr. Joseph Awoyinfa, lecturer in the Department of Human Psychiatry and Health Education, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Nigeria; researcher and educational advisor. I am the person invited by the author and the university to review this book when it was launched to the public on December 4, 2008, in Nigeria.
According to Awoyinfa, it has become a global phenomenon that sport has become an issue that can be overlooked in various economic and social sectors. The author adds that this article thus takes a broader look at current issues in sports management and administration, focusing on modern ideas and principles in sports management and management such as leadership, organization, planning, inspiration, etc.
The text contains 16 chapters. The first chapter is called the “sports management concept”. Here, Awoyinfa says that management is a concept that means different things to different people at different times, leading to the multiplicity of your meanings. He explains that managers are defined in different ways such as art, science, person or people, discipline and process.
The author points out that as art, sports management is about performing the functions of a sports organization through people; while as a science, sports management is about establishing sports philosophy, rules, ideas, principles, processes and procedures. As an organization, according to him, sports management is defined as the process of building legitimate structures and establishment based on goal, objectives, objectives, functions and activities.
Awoyinfa says that as an individual or a group of people, sports managers can refer to the head alone or to all senior staff, committee, etc .; while as a discipline, management is a learning field with a variety of subjects and topics. The author clarifies that sports management as a process is about a systematic way of doing things. Awoininfa highlights management functions in sports management such as planning, planning, staffing, directing / leading, managing, coordinating, budget planning and evaluation. The sports manager in it, this author teaches that the sports manager is anyone at any level of the governing body of the sport.

The second chapter is based on the theory of evolution and the theory of sports management. Here, Awoyinfa reveals that the development of ideas about sports management comes from the days when people started trying to achieve goals by working as a team. In his words, “There were deep thoughts and ideas about management for many years before the beginning of the 20th century, which marked the beginning of modern sportsmanship. Great efforts to develop the ideas and principles of sports management began from the beginning. The 20th century and the work of Frederick Taylor and and Henri Fayol. The 19th-century industrial revolution probably provided the climate for this extremely difficult vision. “
Awoyinfa adds that since the beginning of the 20th century, sports and business management writers have been expressing different views on how to manage work and staff more effectively and efficiently. The author teaches that the three main schools of management thought are: the old; human behavior; and integration. Awoyinfa also highlights the theory of early sports management; principles and characteristics of scientific management; an examination of scientific management theory, etc., in this chapter.
The third chapter is labeled “sports management principles”. In this chapter, the academic adviser explains that the rules of the game are the basic rules on which the game management system is built. He added that the principles of governance should be based on common rules so that they can be applied to sports organizations of different sizes and disciplines. “Modern sports managers and administrators are expected to be able to identify and apply the appropriate principles that are relevant to the particular situation. This is because no single policy can be suitable for all administrative situations,” Awoyinfa submitted.
He says the basic principles of the sport are those that apply to all sports federations and because of their general acceptance, they are sometimes referred to as “international principles of sport management”. The author points Who Has the Biggest Hands in NBA History out that some of these principles are: obligation; power transfer and communication. In terms of humanitarian principles of sport management, Awoyinfa identifies these as democracy, justice, human relations, compassion, empathy, consideration and humility.
